The weather is getting colder, the smell of pine is in the air, and we’re trying to wrap up our final holiday shopping. When we do get a chance to slow down and sit by the fire, it’s time to crack out your new favorite festive cocktail, the Avalanche.

The Avalanche is a twist on the classic summertime treat, the Mudslide. Up here in New England, these are found at just about every beach bar, patio, and bistro. The Avalanche takes the creamy coffee notes from this seaside classic and blends in some traditional holiday flavors. This goes best with a little quiet time after the kiddos have opened all their presents, or on your third-holiday Zoom call.
Make it:
1.5 oz Coffee Liqueur (Kahlua or Kampali)
1.5 oz Vodka (Something nice, we used Tito’s)
1.5 oz Eggnog
This recipe calls for equal parts of all three ingredients so you can adjust the amounts as needed for your desired drink. Add the coffee liqueur, vodka, and eggnog to your shaker with Ice. Grate in a dash of fresh nutmeg on top and shake well. Pour over ice into a rocks glass and enjoy (homemade marshmallows optional).
