One of my go-to meal prep proteins is hard-cooked eggs- they’re portable, high in protein and absolutely delicious topped with a sprinkle of maldon and some cracked black pepper, on a cobb salad or in egg salad. I made them on the stovetop for years before I discovered just how easy they are to make in the Instant Pot– and even better, they peel like a dream when you pressure cook them!

Instant Pot hard cooked eggs are super easy and by far my favorite method. Make sure you’re following the instructions- you can cook them for less time if you want a less-cooked yolk (I love 4 minutes!) but do not skip releasing the pressure right at 5 minutes and plunging into an ice bath- the shock of the ice stops the cooking and causes the egg white to contract, making it easier to peel!

Easy Peel Instant Pot Hard Cooked Eggs:

As many eggs as you want to cook (no more than fits in one layer in pot)

  1. Add 1 cup of water to bottom of Instant Pot. Top with rack or steamer basket.
  2. Add eggs to top of rack or basket.
  3. Set to 5 minutes on manual. After 5 minutes (If you want less cooked eggs, like in the photos, cook for 3-4 minutes), naturally release for 5 minutes. Remove to an ice bath immediately. Let cool 5 minutes before peeling.

Tips for hard cooking eggs in the Instant Pot:

  • Make sure to use a steamer basket or the basket provided with the Instant Pot.
  • Only fill with as many eggs as will fit in one layer! They won’t cook properly otherwise.
  • Make sure your ice bath is filled with ice (the colder the better!) to shock the eggs as soon as they’re done!
