My favorite way to always have easy, inexpensive whole grain, gluten-free flour on hand… is to make homemade oat flour! It takes less than two minutes to make, it only uses ONE pantry staple ingredient– and it costs less than $0.20/oz to make!

How to make homemade oat flour:

All you need to make homemade oat flour is a blender or a food processor. I prefer a blender as I find the oats get more finely ground (my preference).

You’ll need 1 cup of oats for 1 cup of flour (yes, it’s an exact 1:1 ratio– how much easier can you get?!).

To make homemade oat flour:

1. Add oats to blender or food processor. Run on low speed (if blender is gradual speed) for 30 seconds- 1 minute. Shake and repeat 1-2 times until oats are finely ground.

Note: It’s important you pause and shake 1-2 times throughout blending to avoid blender getting too hot. I like to grind it to as fine a meal as possible- it will still work if you don’t grind it as much, your recipe just might have a little more texture.

What blender to use for homemade oat flour?

I typically make smaller batches using my Nutribullet- but you can make larger 4-6 cups batches using a Vitamix or a Ninja, as well.

It’s my favorite for meal prepping easy oat flour banana muffins!

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup rolled oats (use gluten-free as needed) per 1 cup flour needed

Instructions

1. Add oats to blender or food processor. Run on low speed (if blender is gradual speed) for 30 seconds- 1 minute. Shake and repeat 1-2 times until oats are finely ground.

Notes

Note: I prefer a blender for a finer grind; a smaller blender like a nutribullet works well, especially for smaller batches of 1-2 cups. For larger blenders like a Vitamix/Ninja, I prefer to make larger batches (4+ cups).
